Coronavirus deaths: UK sees biggest day-on-day increase as number jumps by 33 to 104

The number of coronavirus deaths in the UK has risen to 104.

It’s a jump of 33 from Tuesday’s death toll of 71: the biggest day-on-day increase since the first death on March 5.

There have been 99 deaths in England, three in Scotland and two in Wales.

An NHS England statement read: “A further 32 people who tested positive for the coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in England to 99.

“Patients were aged between 59 and 94 years old and had underlying health conditions.

“Their families have been informed.”

The 33rd death was in Scotland, and was confirmed by first minister Nicola Sturgeon earlier on Wednesday.

It comes after the Department of Health announced the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK now stands at 2,626: up 676 from Tuesday.

• Epsom and St. Helier NHS Trust – 1

• The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust – 1

• Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust – 3

• Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust – 2

• University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust – 1

• Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust – 1

• Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust – 1
