'You're going to kill someone': Pregnant woman with coronavirus urges people to stay inside

A pregnant woman hospitalised due to coronavirus has urged people to stay inside in a distressing video from her hospital bed.

Karen Mannering, who is 26 weeks pregnant, said she is fighting for her life and the life of her unborn child after testing positive for COVID-19.

In the video, filmed from her hospital bed at the Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother hospital in Margate, Kent, she describes how she has pneumonia in both of her lungs as a result of the virus.

Her video comes amid concerns that people are not following the government’s lockdown rules – including one 20-strong group who were broken up by police.

She said: “I have three kids at home and a husband that I can’t see. I don’t know where I have caught it from, but I am very ill.

“I am telling you now, if you are going to meet your friends for a stupid beer or for a walk because the weather is nice, you are going to take this home and you are going to kill someone,” she warned.

The 39-year-old was taken into hospital on 22 March and shared the video three days later, but said she had been ill for about two weeks at the time it was recorded.

On Monday, Boris Johnson announced tough new restrictions to limit the spread of coronavirus –only leaving your house for basic necessities, to travel to and from work, and for medical needs.

But there have been reports that groups of youths are still gathering in public places, as well as concerns that some people are still holding parties or barbecues, contravening government rules.
