The Countess of Wessex joined the Disability Initiative, of which she is a patron, for a day of fun festive activities to mark International Day of People with Disabilities (3 December).

Sophie Wessex joined the organisation’s workshops including crafting classes and music and drama sessions.

Photographs of the Countess attaching a ribbon to a handmade Christmas wreath and reading from what appears to be a script, were shared on the official Royal Family Instagram account.

A caption alongside the images explained that, “Disability Initiative provides services and rehabilitation for adults with physical disabilities and acquired brain injury.”

As well as joining her disability patronage this week, Sophie also visited volunteers in Woking yesterday (2 December), to help serve food and prepare care packages.

The Lighthouse organisation, which hosted the Countess, shared images of the day on its Instagram accounts. The images show Sophie serving hot drinks and snacks, including mince pies, and chatting to members.

Alongside the post, the Lighthouse wrote, “The Lighthouse volunteers were delighted to be joined by The Countess of Wessex today, serving festive snacks and preparing Christmas care packages for children.”

The Lighthouse project describes itself as “a vibrant hub in Woking that hosts a range of projects to support, encourage and empower marginalised and vulnerable members of society.”

Elsewhere this week, the Duchess of Cambridge announced she will be hosting a carol concert which brings together those who support their communities and celebrates their contributions.

The service will take place at Westminster Abbey next week and will be broadcast on television later this month.
