Yahoo Finance Coronavirus Live Updates: Over 80% Ahmedabad population has antibodies, survey reveals
A serological survey of around 5,000 people from different parts of Ahmedabad city in Gujarat has revealed that 81.63 per cent of the sampled population had developed antibodies against COVID-19, officials said on Monday.
People who have taken both doses of coronavirus vaccines had high levels of seropositivity as compared to those who were yet to be inoculated, they said, citing findings of the recent survey.
Seropositivity essentially means the presence of antibodies in the blood serum.
The survey to detect seropositivity for antibodies against SARS-CoV2, which causes COVID-19, was conducted by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) between May 28 and June 3, when the second wave of the pandemic was subsiding.

India saw a single-day rise of 38,164 new coronavirus infections, while the death toll climbed to 4,14,108 with 499 daily fatalities, the lowest in around 104 days, according to the Union Health Ministry. The total tally of COVID-19 cases has increased to 3,11,44,229.
Cumulative vaccine doses administered so far has reached 40.64 crore under the nationwide vaccination drive.
The 499 new fatalities include 180 from Maharashtra and 81 from Kerala. A total of 4,14,108 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 1,27,031 from Maharashtra, 36,157 from Karnataka, 33,724 from Tamil Nadu, 25,027 from Delhi, 22,719 from Uttar Pradesh, 17,999 from West Bengal and 16,233 from Punjab.
The active cases have declined to 4,21,665 and comprise 1.35 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.32 per cent. A decrease of 995 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
Also, 14,63,593 tests were conducted on Sunday taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far for detection of COVID-19 in the country to 44,54,22,256, while the daily positivity rate was recorded at 2.61 per cent.
The Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday said a negative RT-PCR report is mandatory for people coming to UP from states where the positivity rate is more than three per cent. The report should not be older than four days, it said in a statement.
Instructions have been issued that intense contact tracing and testing be initiated on people coming to the state, the statement said, adding that upon arrival to the state, antigen test and thermal scanning of people should also be done.
