Fresh COVID-19 infections in India dipped to 2,22,315, the lowest in round 38 days, pushing the total tally of coronavirus cases to 2,67,52,447, while the death toll crossed the 3-lakh mark. "All 400 vaccination sites for 18-44 age group closed in Delhi; Covaxin centres for 45-plus people shut too," Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said on Monday. He also appealed the Centre not to make vaccination drive a joke and to approve Pfizer, Moderna jabs immediately.

The Supreme Court on Monday sought a response from the Centre on a plea seeking compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the families of those who have died from coronavirus.

The death toll climbed to 3,03,720 with 4,454 daily deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The 4,454 new fatalities include 1,320 from Maharashtra, 624 from Karnataka, 422 from Tamil Nadu, 231 from Uttar Pradesh, 192 from Punjab, 189 from Delhi, 188 from Kerala, 156 from West Bengal, 107 from Bihar, and 104 from Andhra Pradesh.

A total of 3,03,720 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 88,620 from Maharashtra, 25,282 from Karnataka, 23,202 from Delhi, 20,468 from Tamil Nadu, 19,209 from Uttar Pradesh, 14,364 from West Bengal, 13,281 from Punjab and 12,586 from Chhattisgarh.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced that the ongoing lockdown in the national capital will continue for another week and said the process of 'unlock' will start from May 31 in a phased manner if the number of cases continues to decline.

The Rajasthan government, which extended the coronavirus lockdown by 15 days till June 8, also said the state may allow some relaxations in commercial activities from June 1 in districts where the COVID-19 situation will show significant improvement.

Extending the lockdown till May 31, the Haryana government said the positivity and fatality rates have to be brought down further, though it did allow some relaxations in the curbs.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan too had Saturday announced that the coronavirus-induced restrictions in the state would be gradually relaxed from the next month.

The Uttar Pradesh government had also extended partial corona curfew till 7 AM May 31 on Saturday.

Among the southern states, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Telangana have extended their lockdown this month, while Andhra Pradesh will continue to have a curfew.

The Puducherry government on Sunday announced the extension of the ongoing lockdown till May 31 as COVID-19 cases continue to soar in the union territory. The two-week-long lockdown clamped on May 10 is to come to an end on May 24 at midnight.

In the Northeast, the Mizoram government has extended total lockdown in Aizawl and other district headquarters till May 31. Nagaland, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have extended the restrictions till month-end.
