SINGAPORE — Zam Zam Restaurant, Marche Movenpick in Raffles City Shopping Centre, and Fish & Co at Paragon were among 16 eateries fined for breaching COVID-19 safe management measures over the weekend.

Fifteen of them were fined $1,000 while Zam Zam was fined $2,000 as it was the outlet’s second offence, said the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) on Thursday (24 December).

Among the 15 were Marche Movenpick, Fish & Co as well as five eateries at the Punggol Container Park at 50 Punggol East, including Big Fish Small Fish, Seoul Good, Beastro LLP, Madya Cuisines, and Kin Kao Mai Thai Restaurant.

The ministry also said 36 individuals were fined $300 each.

“We must not become complacent and must continue to remain vigilant; otherwise, our individual and collective sacrifices over the past year will be in vain,” the MSE added.

Agencies will continue to step up inspections and take firm enforcement action at food-and-beverage (F&B) outlets during this festive period, it said.

The ministry reminded members of the public to adhere to the current maximum limit of five people and to refrain from intermingling between groups or tables.

They must also wear their masks while waiting for their food and drinks to arrive and put them on immediately after they finish eating and drinking.

“Do remind those around you to do the same. This will protect you as dining out is an activity that involves considerable risks,” said the MSE.

Large groups should not be split into multiple tables and F&B operators are not permitted to accept such reservations, unless all members of the group are from the same household, it added.

Members of the public should also avoid visiting malls, supermarkets, post offices, and stadiums at peak hours, said the MSE. They should check spaceout.gov.sg before heading out, to find out if their destination is crowded.

Those who wish to visit Sentosa’s beaches on weekends and public holidays are required to reserve entry into the beaches, five days before their visit.

Before heading down to gardens, parks and nature reserves managed by the National Parks Board (NParks), they should also check the Safe Distance @ Parks portal for the latest updates on visitorship levels and temporary closures.

Those celebrating the holidays at home are allowed to have a maximum of five visitors per household.

“While many may wish to meet up with family and friends, or visit popular areas for shopping or dining out, we urge everyone to avoid visiting in large groups and to adhere to the prevailing safe management measures,” said the MSE.

The ministry added that safe distancing ambassadors and enforcement officers will continue to be deployed across the island.

It noted that a resurgence of infections, as seen in other countries, would have devastating effects on lives and livelihoods in Singapore.

“The cooperation of individuals and businesses will help to safeguard public health, while allowing businesses to remain open. Together, our collective efforts will determine if we can successfully make the transition to Phase 3 and to a new normal,” added the MSE.

Singapore is due to enter Phase 3 of reopening on Monday.
