Crackdown 3 release date revealed along with first multiplayer trailer

The long-awaited Crackdown 3 now has a release date
The long-awaited Crackdown 3 now has a release date

The oft-delayed Crackdown 3 has finally been given a firm release date by Microsoft. The action-adventure will release on 15 February 2019 for Xbox One and PC and will be available on Microsoft's increasingly impressive Xbox Game Pass service.

Announced at the X018 showcase, the release date reveal brings an end to Crackdown 3's often tumultuous development. Originally announced at the Xbox E3 showcase in 2015 by the original game creator's David Jones, Crackdown 3 has suffered multiple delays on the road to release.

But with the release date seemingly set, Microsoft also revealed an impressive first-look at Crackdown 3's 5-on-5 multiplayer mode called Wrecking Zone.

As promised at the game's initial reveal, the multiplayer will feature fully-destructible environments powered by the cloud (in the form of Microsoft's own Azure), mixing Crackdown's heavy-ordnance and super-powered traversal with crumbling arenas.

Microsoft also announced that the original Crackdown will be available for free from now until 30 November as a backwards-compatible Xbox 360 title, complete with enhancements for Xbox One X owners.

Crackdown 3 will be available on Microsoft's subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, on release. The service, which allows players to download a selection of titles for one monthly fee, has become an increasing focus for Microsoft. Many of its first-party games, including Forza Horizon 4, are available on release date alongside retail versions.

The company also announced that major titles such as battle royale game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Ori and the Blind Forest and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice were also arriving on the service come December.
