Craig David Turns Celibate After Trauma From Too Many One Night Stands

Singer Craig David has turned to celibacy for a year in order to heal from his 'own issues.'

Speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast, David reveals how a number of short-term relationships in his 20s left him feeling afraid of getting hurt and that his heart kind of closed down in order to protect himself.

'Sometimes you gotta pull it back, man. I’m 42 years old now, things are different,' says David. Unless you are both on a level, you're going to spill over into both and that can go into many different traumas.'

David was also interviewed about his current lifestyle choices and dating, and explained how one night stands can cause issues and why he has turned to celibacy.

'I realised that me not having healed my own issues, was never really having me in the position to be open to someone else. So therefore, I realised that I had to pull back from all of this. This has been the last couple of years really for me.'

The pop star continued '[I] reigned the whole thing back, which does mean not outwardly going on dates. The sexual interactions are going to have to just stop now. You're going to have to cut that off.'

David shared that he is looking for more meaningful connections than ones based solely on aesthetics. 'I had to reign it back and say I need a real relationship now, this is not about how you're looking. I don’t want that anymore,' admitted the singer.

'There's having fun, but I've also realised that the having fun which I'd experienced for many years wasn't conducive to the feeling and the deep yearning that I'd had.'
