Yahoo Finance Critics aren't in love with Kristen Stewart's new movie 'Underwater'
It appears that critics aren't diving into Kristen Stewart's new sci-fi horror movie Underwater.
The movie, just emerging from the depths now after being shot in 2017, finds the Twilight star among a team of underwater researchers besieged by flesh-eating creatures after an earthquake nearly destroys their deep-sea lab.

Stewart is teamed with Vincent Cassel and Silicone Valley's T.J. Miller for the sub-aqua monster flick, but so far it's not feeling a great deal of critical love.
Variety has blasted it as a 'deep-sea knock off of Alien' in a scathing notice, dubbing it 'rudderless junk'.
“Underwater is a stupefying entertainment in which every claustrophobic space and apocalyptic crash of water registers as a slick visual trigger, yet it’s all built on top of a dramatic void. It’s boredom in Sensurround,” critic Owen Gleiberman goes on.
Adds The Wrap: “Underwater is not Alien beneath the sea, although it desperately wants to be, from the close-up of barefoot [Stewart] to having her run around in her underwear to the possible 'baby' sea monster the crew captures at one point.”
The Guardian has called it 'soggy and silly', while Screenrant reckons its 'shallow and boring'.
Some offered faint praise, including Forbes' Scott Mendelson, tweeting: “By the way, review next week, but #Underwater is aggressively 'fine.' It's well made, well-acted (Kristen Stewart has fun as an overly chatty would-be action heroine) and the first reel is pretty good, it drags in the middle before firing on all cylinders in the final moments.”

The Hollywood Reporter's John Defore is also vaguely complimentary, calling it 'an effective sci-fi thriller', but also notes 'a skimpier version of Ellen Ripley's underwear-action-hero look is one Alien reference this movie could've done without'.
One minute Stewart is being hailed with movies like Personal Shopper and then she's making the roundly panned Charlie's Angels reboot.
So sometimes, it's hard to know quite where we stand.
Helmed by William Eubank, Underwater splashes down in the UK on February 7.
