Hamburg, 8 July 2021. Cureus GmbH, founded in the summer of 2020, today published its Sustainability Report for fiscal 2020. In this first report, the company, which has grown continuously since its founding, provides a snapshot of the business's impact in three areas - environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) - and commits to a number of tangible measures for the future. This initial report is designed in accordance with the standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the internationally recognised framework for sustainability reporting, and also integrates industry-specific EPRA criteria. Cureus is also committed to the principles of the Institute for Corporate Governance (ICG) in the German real estate industry.

"We are aware that a company can only be successful in the long term if it can establish and maintain the right balance between ESG concerns in its business operations", says Gerald Klinck, CFO of Cureus. "From day one of Cureus, we prioritised sustainability issues and aspects and integrated them into the growing company, into our processes and, of course, into our standard for system care homes".

Christian Möhrke, COO of Cureus: "We are committed to forward-looking corporate governance, focussed on growth and want to minimise the negative and maximise the positive ESG impacts of our company. Our care homes - and thus our value creation process - deliver positive economic, environmental and social benefits for operators and residents. Last but not least, we have also positioned ourselves as a responsible employer. We are working intensively to further consolidate and expand these fields of action, both in our corporate development and in the management and development of our properties".

Cureus is an integrated property company in the care home sector that develops and manages its own portfolio of care homes. In order to secure the long-term sustainability of its portfolio, the company already integrates a range of economic, social and environmental aspects in the conception, planning and construction of its system care homes. In addition to cost-effective construction, which guarantees the supply of affordable care places through standardisation and optimised procurement, and high-quality building equipment and design tailored to residents' needs, the company also attaches great importance to energy efficiency in its care homes. For example, Cureus designs all of its new buildings to meet the KfW 40 energy-efficiency standard of the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). Cureus also applies a comprehensive catalogue of environmental and social criteria in the choice of location for its care homes.

Cureus also takes its responsibility towards its employees very seriously and strives to further enhance its attractive and, above all, safe and healthy working environment. Within one year, the workforce has increased more than sixfold from 18 employees in summer 2020 to around 115 employees in June 2021. In addition to numerous employee incentives and perks, the company's diverse workforce benefits above all from the dynamics of a young company and the opportunity to actively shape their own working environment as the company continues to grow.

Specific goals for enhanced sustainability

Cureus has set itself the goal of continuing its growth while also integrating ESG aspects and has already defined further specific measures and goals in its Sustainability Report. For instance: the remuneration of the management board will be linked to sustainability aspects; a code of conduct for employees and suppliers is planned; the number of systems installed for the generation of renewable energies is to be increased; energy, water and materials consumed during the construction of the company's system care homes will be recorded and disclosed transparently; and regular employee surveys will provide a basis for further optimisation of the working environment. In addition, the company aspires to become a training company in the future.
