There’s a great bunch of money-saving deals and discounts for you to grab this week, including cut-price football shirts, cash from banks and a free cinema ticket.

But don’t forget, a bargain is only a good deal if you were planning to splash out on it anyway.

Cut-price football shirts

With the end of the football season fast approaching, replica club shirts are being cut in price.

At KitBag.com, for instance, Manchester United shirts have been cut by £10 to £44.99, Arsenal is reduced by £24 to £35.99, while West Ham shirts have been slashed by £36 to £23.99.

Your club not listed? Don’t worry, there’s a money-saving thread at UKHot Deals which includes links to the shirt clearance sections of all 92 Premier League and English Football League sides.

Gardening offers

Budget supermarket Lidl is offering a range of gardening offers from Thursday 3 May.

Deals include grass shears at £3.99 and a pruning saw at £4.99. If you’ve got a fair-sized lawn you may even be tempted by an electric-start self-propelled petrol lawnmower at £249.99.

Six-inch sub at £2.49

Sandwich chain Subway has created seven special six-inch subs that are offered in-store at £2.49. Normal six-inch subs cost from £2.99-£3.99.

On Monday it’s Cheese and Onion, Tuesday is Mango Chicken Tikka, Wednesday Meat Feast, Thursday Nacho Chicken Salsa, Friday Fiery Tuna, Saturday Pepperoni Pizza, and Sunday’s offer, which sounds the best of the lot, is All-Day Mega Breakfast.

The offer runs until 26 June.

Fed up with your bank? TSB customers may well be after the collapse of its online banking system in the last week or so.

But don’t just switch out of anger – move for a cash reward.

Sally Francis, money expert at MoneySuperMarket, points out that you can earn by moving accounts.

“Those looking to switch now could consider M&S Bank, which is offering £185 in vouchers if you switch and stay for a year, or First Direct, which has just launched a raft of new switching incentives, including a £150 Expedia voucher,” she points out.

A cheaper way to pay abroad

A new free multi-currency debit card and account is a convenient and cost-effective way for travellers to pay abroad.

The borderless account from TransferWise promises no sneaky fees and no exchange rate markups. In fact the company claims the card is 8x cheaper than using a traditional high street bank card abroad.

You can sign up to the borderless account and order a debit card here.

£35 UK hotel rooms

Tip of the week

Watch out for loan scams! The City watchdog warns that there’s an increased threat from crooks targeting borrowers.

Victims are contacted by fraudsters offering a loan. The scammer tells the victim they have to pay an upfront fee – normally hundreds of pounds – but the loan never appears.

Fraudsters have a range of genuine-sounding reasons for asking for a fee – including claiming that it’s a deposit, admin fee or insurance for those with low credit ratings, the Financial Conduct Authority warns.

Other warning signs include: being asked to pay in an unusual way such as by iTunes vouchers or a money transfer service; being put under pressure to pay the fee quickly; or being asked to pay multiple fees.

Suspected loan scams can be reported to the FCA. Fraud should also be reported to Action Fraud.
