Yahoo Finance Dame Judi Dench opens the Queen’s garden at the Chelsea Flower Show
Dame Judi Dench opened the RHS Queen’s Green Canopy Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show today (20 September).
The star cut a ceremonial floral garland in the Queen's garden at the show, however she had a little difficulty snipping through it!
After a little help and some laughter, Dame Judi cut through the garland to open the garden. You can watch a clip of the garland cutting on the Good Housekeeping Instagram story.
Dame Judi Dench is an ambassador for The Queen’s Green Canopy, a new initiative for Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee next year, which aims to encourage more trees to be planted in honour of the milestone.
Today’s event began the official countdown to the “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee” planting season, which begins on 1 October 2021. The garden features a canopy of 21 trees and aims to highlight “the value of tree planting to the environment.”
Also appearing at the show today, was Call the Midwife’s Helen George. The star opened The Florence Nightingale Garden which was designed to honour what would have been the nurse’s 200th birthday.
Helen read a poem called I Speak for Nurses Worldwide written by retired nurse Audrey Arden-Jones OBE. The actress met with four NHS nurses who were also present at the garden, which pays tribute to healthcare workers.
After the RHS Chelsea Flower Show concludes, the Florence Nightingale Garden will be transferred to St Thomas’ Hospital in London where it can be enjoyed by both staff and patients.
