Dancing with the Stars dancer Cheryl Burke has apologised for "nasty" comments she made about former celebrity partner Ian Ziering a few years ago.

The pair were partnered up on the fourth season of the US dance show in 2007, though nine years later she called the 90210 star her "least favourite" partner, and said that he "made [her] want to slit [her] wrists".

"I was, like, crying to the executives," she added. "I was like, 'Is there any way to please just eliminate us?' They're like, 'We can't. We can't do that', and I swear, every time I asked, we just kept going. We would last until the end."

At the time, Burke expressed regret for making "light of suicide" with her words, though she has now said she wants to make amends with Ziering.

"The one thing I truly regret and want to make amends with is Ian Ziering," she told the Pretty Messed Up podcast. "I was completely out of line a few years ago, and I did a podcast where they were asking me who my favorite partner was and who did I hate the most.

"And I answered Ian Ziering, and I said something along the lines of, 'I'd rather slit my wrists than dance with Ian Ziering again.'"

She added: "I truly am so sorry for being so inconsiderate and just talking trying to get a reaction and putting him as my punching bag really.

"I took it to that next level of nastiness. I was so nasty. And I'm here to publicly apologise to Ian and his family."

Burke went on to say that she "lost a lot of respect for [herself]" and that it "haunts [her] till this day".

Digital Spy has reached out to Ziering's representatives for comment.

Dancing with the Stars airs on ABC in the US, while UK fans can watch the dances on the show's YouTube channel.
