Darren Yaw Media Launches Latest News App Targeting College Students in Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR / ACCESSWIRE / July 1, 2021 / Darren Yaw Media launched its Latest News App (LANApp) geared towards college students in Malaysia. In an official announcement, Darren Yaw Media said Darren Yaw Media's Latest News App is a social networking app specifically for students in college and universities to create individual as well as group profiles in order to grow their friendship base and network.
"Darren Yaw Media's Latest News App or LANApp is an app designed to meet the needs of students during this new normal of online classes with little to no offline, in-person chances to meet. We feel confident it will succeed," said Darren Yaw Media's Founder and CEO Lee Foo Hoe.
Darren Yaw Media's Latest News App was created during the height of the 2020 pandemic wave when the company saw students trying to get access to latest news about what was going on in their respective campuses, and engage and connect to others. "There was an opportunity to fill the news gap, so we leapt at the chance to create something youth can actually use. At the time, the app was seen as an urgent response to a news and information vacuum. Now, we've added more features and functionality to suit evolving campus conditions," explained Founder and CEO Lee Foo Hoe about Darren Yaw Media's Latest News App.
To use Darren Yaw Media's Latest News App, new members create their own profile and tailor the profiles to their interests by answering prompts and making preferences. The app uses artificial intelligence which matches students to others of similar interests. Students can also filter according to club or association affiliations or courses. "When students create their Latest News App (LANApp) profile, they answer questions such as what course, home town, interests and then they can find and connect to others in their college or university using the in-app chat function," said Darren Yaw Media's Latest News App (LANApp) Chief Technology Officer Mark Yaw.
Everyone on the platform is verified as attending that particular college or university, so students are sure that they are engaging amongst other students from their college or university. All users can create customized feeds for news, and upcoming events or activities based on their personal interests, and club affiliations, which would be applicable to all students.
Although the app was intended to be a location or college-based app, Darren Yaw Media's Latest News App (LANApp) is currently beta testing a function to connect students from different campuses and universities among the five private universities and colleges it has signed up. "Considering the situation right now, with students attending online classes and not being able to physically meet their peers, we feel they will take the opportunity to reach out to more people through the Latest News App (LANApp)," Darren Yaw Media's Lee Foo Hoe.
Darren Yaw Media sees the Latest News App as an alternative to the mainstream social media apps such as twitter and facebook. "We see the big social media platforms as a tool to maintain relationships, rather than building new ones. The Latest News App can help students, especially newcomers feel connected to the school. Results so far are very encouraging. On a weekly basis, students engaged with Latest News app over 10 times per day. And we noticed students' promoting their events and meet-ups on the app," said Darren Yaw Media's Latest News App (LANApp) Chief Technology Officer John Darren Yaw.
Major investors in Darren Yaw Media is Guardian Capital Group Asia (GCG Asia) led by Dato Sri Dr Suhaimi Abdul Rahman. The group is a diversified conglomerate with interests in industries such as technology, media and green investments in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and Cambodia.
Darren Yaw Media's Latest News App (LANApp)'s CTO John Darren Yaw also says that the app will be adding more features soon, such as a section where students can connect and support each other anonymously, and sections dedicated to mental health to help students cope with stress, anxiety and loneliness.
Darren Yaw Media is a technology and media publishing company with assets targeting youth and teens based in Malaysia.
