Davina McCall has given the perfect response to a Twitter user who described her as being an “old, over sun-kissed woman” who “should cover up”.

The TV presenter, 53, wore a stunning, silky, polka dot gown, with spaghetti straps and a side split, for her appearance on The Masked Singer on Saturday 23 January.

After sharing an image of her wearing the dress to Twitter before her stint on the show, McCall received a whole slew of compliments on the sleek look.

But one person wasn’t quite as impressed and took it upon herself to play the role of age police, appearing to insinuate McCall was too old to wear the slip dress.

“Old over sun-kissed woman should cover up… stunning dress but not for the wrinkly crinkly… demure for the mature,” the tweet read.

To which the presenter had the perfect clap back: “Really sorry. Absolutely no chance of demure over here sue... growing old disgracefully is far more fun,” she wrote.

Of course, McCall’s fans were also keen to have their say on the issue, with many pointing out that age is just a number when it comes to style.

“Utter poppycock, she looked stunning. What an absolutely s****y thing to say to anyone,” one wrote.

“If I may weigh in here, you are stunning,” another agreed. “You're a walking advert for hydration and exercise, your skin looks without flaw.”

“Not a bloody wrinkle on her! Looks better than I do and I’m 20+ years younger,” another agreed. “If you got it, flaunt it, comes to mind. What’s wrong with some people and their unnecessary opinions.”

Another pointed out that “the days of women hitting 50 and getting the twin set and pearls out is long gone!

“You look amazing Davina and I bet you still will in 20 years time, so keep wearing killer dresses.”

McCall has recently been revealing snippets of her fitness regime.

In a post on Instagram, the star shared a clip of herself shadow-boxing wearing weighted gloves while exercising in her kitchen via her fitness platform Own Your Goals Davina.

She also recently revealed that her attitude to fitness has changed from “making myself look hot in a bikini” to “staying alive longer” during the pandemic.

The Masked Singer panellist, who has a passion for fitness, said she has a new appreciation for things she has missed, and is looking forward to returning to, when restrictions are lifted.

“Previously, my ‘keeping fit and healthy’ was all about my body and making myself look hot in a bikini… and actually now it’s just about staying alive longer and being in the best possible position to beat anything should it come my way,” she said in an interview with Women’s Health UK.

“A lot has been said about health and fitness for your mental health this year, and we all know that it really makes an enormous difference.”

Like many of us, the pandemic has impacted her usual workout routine, and McCall says she’s having to carve out time to squeeze in exercise in the evening.

“The other night I exercised at 9.30 at night… I’m just trying to squeeze in a workout on my fitness platform, Own Your Goals, between cleaning the house, doing a ton of laundry, cooking and everything else,” she explained.

Meanwhile in September 2020, the TV presenter revealed that she feels “better” than she did in her 20s.

Appearing as the cover star for the October issue of Women’s Health McCall opened up about feeling fit and healthy in her 50s.

Despite saying she doesn’t think she looks quite as good as she did a few decades ago, McCall is feeling better than ever.

“I don’t look as good naked as I did in my 20s. But I feel better, and that’s the difference,” she said. “I walk around like a foxy minx now because I feel like a foxy minx.”

McCall also recently wowed fans by showing off her incredibly toned figure while modelling bikinis in her bedroom on a UK staycation.

The popular presenter looked youthful while posing in an assortment of yellow, red and blue bikinis beside her brown, leather-framed bed.

The post quickly clocked up more than 91K ‘likes’, with thousands of fans leaving messages of praise for the hard work the mum-of-three puts in the gym.

Last year McCall impressed her fans on Instagram by showing off her incredible ten-day body transformation.

The TV star revealed to her 1.1m followers how she had embarked on a health kick while on holiday in Australia over last year’s festive period.

In addition to running, Pilates and short workouts from her Own Your Goals Davina website, McCall revealed she had also been trying to avoid snacking between meals.

Sharing a side-by-side selfie of pictures taken just 10 days apart and wearing the same grey bandeau bikini, she showed off the “toned up” results - which she said have made her feel “heaps better”.

Despite her obvious body confidence, McCall has faced a backlash about her exercise regime, with some criticising the star for her love of keeping fit.

Back in 2019, McCall made a guest appearance on This Morning and opened up to presenters, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, about the social media backlash she faces on a daily basis.

“People are like, ‘are you addicted to exercise?’ I could think of worse things to be addicted to,” she admitted. “If I could, I would go five or six times a week.”

While she is often praised for the bikini selfies she shares via Instagram, the social media platform also gives trolls a voice with many accusing her of being “too thin”.

Some followers have even gone so far as to accuse McCall of encouraging eating disorders.

In response, McCall admitted: “I don’t care what people say about that, because if I believed I was a bad role model I wouldn’t do what I was doing. Everybody is going to have an opinion, I try not to read it too much.”
