You can get an Amazon Alexa Echo Dot smart speaker for just £5 right now.

Head over to John Lewis and pick up a Ring Smart Video Doorbell, for £39 (that’s £10 off the usual ticket price),

The pop an Amazon Echo Dot (3rd Gen) to your basket and use discount code RINGDOT at the checkout to claim (this Dot will normally set you back £39.99).

How come? Amazon actually owns Ring, having picked up the company for a billion bucks back in 2018, which explains the cross promotion. Interesting fact: early on, Ring was rejected by the big name investors on Shark Tank, the US equivalent of Dragon’s Den. They couldn’t see it’s potential.

Buy it: Ring Smart Video Doorbell | £39 from John Lewis and get the Amazon Echo Dot for just £5

Buy this Ring video doorbell, and you’ll see all comers..

The Ring doorbell sends alerts to your smartphone, or the aforementioned Echo Dot speaker, whenever anyone presses the buzzer. Using the Ring app, you’ll be able to see, hear and speak to whoever’s at the door using your smartphone, tablet or PC. The Ring also responds to Amazon Alexa voice commands, and can link over Wi-Fi to a Ring Chime bell.

Here’s the important bit: this particular version of the Ring doorbell needs to be hard-wired. It’s compatible with existing doorbell systems that provide low voltage 8-24VAC, but if your existing doorbell wiring system is incompatible, it’s worth getting a security professional to handle the installation.

Features include Live View, night vision and built-in motion sensors. It connects over your home Wi-Fi network. The camera itself is Full HD and has a wide 155 degree field of view.

We’ve enthused about the Amazon Echo Dot speaker before, and it remains one of our favourite Alexa gadgets.

Amazon's Echo Dot is worth £39.99.
Amazon's Echo Dot is worth £39.99.

This diddy smart speaker takes up little space but offers a surprisingly big sound, making it ideal for the home office, bedroom, or kitchen; it’s great for listening to your favourite radio stations and music services, and offers all the usual smart Alexa functionality, from weather and news reports to helpful conversions and timer alerts. It also jokes, although admittedly they’re not very good.

Stand-up routines aside, we reckon this home security deal is a proper steal. Grab it while you can.
