Dear Evan Hansen's movie adaptation finally has its first trailer.

Universal Pictures has debuted a brand new trailer, which you can watch above, and some first-look images for the movie, which is an adaptation of the Broadway and West End musical hit.

The movie sees Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winning actor Ben Platt reprise his stage role as high school student Evan Hansen, an anxious teen who is desperate to be accepted and to find somewhere he belongs.

Evan begins writing himself letters at the recommendation of his therapist in order to cope with his social anxiety, but is upset when one of his letters is picked up from a school printer by fellow student Connor Murphy (Little Voice's Colton Ryan), who has already revealed to Evan that he also feels lonely.

Evan is left shocked when he is called for a meeting with Connor's mother Cynthia (Enchanted star Amy Adams) and stepfather Larry (Scandal's Danny Pino), during which Cynthia passes Evan his letter and tells him: "Connor wanted you to have this" – mistakenly believing that Connor wrote the letter to Evan.

Larry tells Evan that Connor has taken his own life, news which shocks Evan – and he soon becomes caught in the lie that Connor wrote the letter and that the pair had been friends.

The Hunger Games actress Julianne Moore also stars as Evan's mother Heidi, while The Hate U Give actress Amandla Stenberg plays Alana Beck and Atypical actor Nik Dodani takes on the role of Jared Kleinman.
