Christmas has come early for some lucky Premium Bonds prize winners, as National Savings & Investments (NS&I) has paid out a record two million prizes worth a total of £58 million in December.

Premium Bonds changes
Savers can now hold up to £40,000 of Premium Bonds, instead of the previous maximum of £30,000.
A total of £15.5 billion-worth of prizes has now been paid out since the first Premium Bonds draw back in June 1957.
However, if you haven't won a prize for some time or ever, you might want to see how much interest you could earn on your money elsewhere. Many current accounts, for example, are paying more than high street savings accounts. TSB's Classic Plus current account is paying 5% on up to £2,000, providing you pay in £500 a month.
Meanwhile, peer-to-peer accounts can pay 7% for lending your money to other people or small businesses looking for a loan. Just be aware you don't have the safety net of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme if the company that facilitates the lending goes bust.
