It's been a long time coming, but finally a new batch of emojis have dropped – and we're loving the diversity they've brought with them. After years of campaigning (by the likes of iconic trans activist and author Charlie Craggs), Unicode have finally seen sense and created a trans flag emoji (previously, Charlie deftly pointed out via her Claws Out For Trans campaign, there was a lobster emoji... but still no representation for the trans folk of the world).

They've also added a male-presenting bride (cute tache!), a long-haired, female-presenting groom and a non-gendered person in a tuxedo (and another non-binary person in a veil). In total, according to a tweet from Emojipedia, there are 117 new additions to the gang.

Also included in the new update? In no particular order: a seal, bubble tea, a stuffed olive, an anatomical heart, a sneaky emoji face with a moustache and glasses (so mysterious, who is he? Where did you find him?), and a transgender symbol. Plus, ninjas, Christmas hat-wearing people in a variety on skin tones, a saw, roller skates, a magic wand (how long until that becomes the new aubergine though?) and a gravestone.

Some of the new emoji additions seem like they should've always been there, but it's better late than never. Right?

In terms of being forward thinking and more gender inclusive, the Emoji team have also released a man bottle feeding a baby and a person bottle feeding a baby, whereas previously it was only a woman seen to be doing that task. The breastfeeding emoji remains exclusively depicted by a woman.

Twitter reacted to the news with plenty of users suggesting other new additions for future updates, as well as expressing their delight with the update. One wrote, "Would love to be able to change the skin colors of the families!!" Another urged creators to put forth a better variety of redhead emojis (currently they cannot be used to shrug or face palm etc).

Also important: a new smiley wearing a protective face mask has been added – only this time they look a lot happier about the whole thing.

So, which of the new emojis will be going straight to the top of your frequently used list? For the full range, check out the list on Emojipedia.
