Tech neck - ever heard of it? What about Zoom chin?
Thanks to the onslaught of daily meetings on video conferencing apps like Zoom, remote workers have become hyperaware of their appearance on-camera.
Sadly, this has led to a negative self-image for many, but the last thing we should be doing is beating ourselves up for the days we're a little extra tired on a 9 a.m. Google Meet.
And while working from home has caused a number of issues besides facing the dreaded "on-screen double chin," it's still a pain point for those who must face their colleagues on video chat everyday.
As a result, searches for botox, nose jobs, and facial surgery are higher. New York-based plastic surgeon Dr. Melissa Doft recently told Elle that the number of submental liposuctions (which remove from fat from around the chin) has tripled since COVID-19 restrictions have allowed her to open her office.
In other words, more people are willing to dish out the average $4,000 for chin lipo than usual. If you are not one of those people, there are less expensive alternatives available like Dermalogica's new "skin care workout for your neck and décolleté."

Why use it?
Dermalogica has always been a game-change. Since the brand made its debut in 1986, it began revolutionizing the skin care industry by producing formulas without common irritants like SD alcohol, lanolin, mineral oil, artificial colours and fragrances.
The innovation did not stop there; the Neck Fit Contour Serum is one of the first of its kind to actually work.
Using FlexLift Contour Technology, an innovative blend of peptides, and a roll-on applicator that evenly distributes product, the new serum helps minimize fine lines and wrinkles while toning skin over time.
Plus, it provides an immediate tightening and lifting effect that sculpts skin for a more contoured appearance.
According to skin care experts at Dermalogica, neck skin is prone to fine lines because of the "wrinkle-deepening motion of looking down at your devices."
The neck skin is thin, delicate, and more vulnerable to sun damage, and it also loses strength and flexibility with age while the neck muscles weaken underneath.
These factors can exacerbate the appearance of lines, creases and sagging, therefore, it's important to use a "hydrating, targeted neck moisturizer with restorative properties, such as peptides, ceramides, and hyaluronic acid", New York-based dermatologist Dr. Sejal Shah told Vogue.
Known as "your neck’s best personal trainer," the Neck Fit Contour Serum is designed to be used morning and night.
Simply turn on the applicator, tilt your chin up, and gently squeeze the tube to dispense the serum while rolling the applicator over your entire neck, from décolleté to jawline.
While the Neck Fit Contour Serum comes with personalized neck workouts to help sculpt your neck's appearance, Dermalogica also offers guidance on how to train your neck muscles to appear longer, leaner and more contoured with the help of a skin therapist.
Using rye seed extract, a novel palmitoyl tripeptide-42 and rambutan extract to deliver retinol-like results, the Neck Fit Contour Serum also incorporates a resurrection plant-inspired polysaccharide to strengthen the skin's moisture barrier for a smooth, even appearance.
What reviewers are saying
For some, the Neck Fit Contour Serum has become a bedside table essential.
"Ok so I haven't used a product exactly like this before but I have used a ton of products for face neck and firming. This is by far one of the easiest. The smell is not over whelming or horrible. It's actually pleasant," one Ulta customer explained. I love that you can switch the bottle on and off and that it allows you to roll it on without having to use your hands.
This is definitely something I will purchase again and [it] is part of my morning and evening beauty regimen. I've already noticed a difference in the appearance of the skin on my neck and it's only been a week. Love this product. Compared to other lotions I've used, I would definitely say it's the best in its class."
Others have noted the perfect amount of product the Neck Fit Contour Serum distributes, as well as the benefits of physical massage.
"I'm in love with this serum! It comes in a squeeze tube which I was afraid would distribute too quickly, but I was pleasantly surprised at the perfect dosage it lets out, which makes this bottle really last," another Ulta reviewer said.
"I'm noticing a big difference in the tightness and elasticity of the skin on my neck despite my skepticism. I think it's a combination of the physical massage the roller gives my skin and the serum itself. I was seriously considering giving this to my mom if it didn't work for me but I'm definitely keeping it for myself and ordering more!"
To try, or to toss?
As far as we can tell, a possible "end date" to the pandemic is still far off, which means we can all expect to be video conferencing for longer.
So if you've been considering ways to fix your Zoom chin for good, at least you can be satisfied knowing that you don't have to spend $4,000 on lipo when the Neck Fit Contour Serum is available for under $100.
