TikToker shares 'life-changing' hack to organize computer desktop: 'This is genius'

Keeping your computer desktop organized can be overwhelming and time-consuming. But letting file folders, random downloads and screenshots pile up, just creates clutter.

Kara Lee, a photographer and designer, shared a simple trick she used to give her desktop a chic makeover. So if you could use a “desktop glow up” this might be the simplest way to do it.

Enter here for a chance to win a $500 Winky Lux prize package.

Lee used a photo editing app to create an image with two rows and three columns to make six sections. Next, she assigned each section a different color and added labels. The labels were “design,” “photography,” “paperwork/receipts,” “travel,” “to-dos,” and “screenshots.” She saved the image and set it as her desktop background. Finally, she organized her files to fit the six sections.

Lee’s desktop went from chaos to having all of her files organized by color-coded categories. Not only was it visually pleasing, but everything was easier to find. It’s no wonder the trick received over 158,000 likes on Instagram.

“I need this in my life!” one person commented.

“Omg this is genius,” another said.

“This is life-changing, truly,” someone added.

Keeping your desktop clean has more benefits than aesthetics. Having too many disorganized files can cause your computer to slow down.

“The purpose of the desktop is to be interactive, not to store files. If you have a large number of files on your desktop, it is slowing down your computer. Those files need to be reorganized in your other folders,” according to Angie’s List.

It turns out loading all those desktop icons and files use a lot more of your computer’s resources than you may think!
