Did Business Growth Power Alphatec Holdings's (NASDAQ:ATEC) Share Price Gain of 226%?

The most you can lose on any stock (assuming you don't use leverage) is 100% of your money. But if you pick the right stock, you can make a lot more than 100%. For example, the Alphatec Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATEC) share price has soared 226% in the last year. Most would be very happy with that, especially in just one year! Also pleasing for shareholders was the 27% gain in the last three months. Looking back further, the stock price is 111% higher than it was three years ago.

Alphatec Holdings isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one does expect good top-line growth.

Alphatec Holdings grew its revenue by 15% last year. We respect that sort of growth, no doubt. While that revenue growth is pretty good the share price performance outshone it, with a lift of 226% as mentioned above. Given that the business has made good progress on the top line, it would be worth taking a look at its path to profitability. Of course, we are always cautious about succumbing to 'fear of missing out' when a stock has shot up strongly.

We consider it positive that insiders have made significant purchases in the last year. Even so, future earnings will be far more important to whether current shareholders make money. So we recommend checking out this free report showing consensus forecasts

A Different Perspective

We're pleased to report that Alphatec Holdings shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 226% over one year. That certainly beats the loss of about 14% per year over the last half decade. This makes us a little wary, but the business might have turned around its fortunes.
