Did Insiders Buy On Broadcom Inc’s (NASDAQ:AVGO) Price Volatility?

Broadcom Inc. designs, develops, and supplies a range of semiconductor devices with a focus on complex digital and mixed signal complementary metal oxide semiconductor based devices and analog III-V based products worldwide. Broadcom is one of United States’s large-cap stocks that saw some insider buying over the past three months, with insiders investing in 344.76k shares during this period. It is widely considered that insider buying stock in their own companies is potentially a bullish signal. A research published in The MIT Press (1998) concluded that stocks following insider buying outperformed the market by 4.5%. But these signals may not be sufficient to gain confidence on whether to invest. I’ve analysed two possible reasons driving the insiders’ decision to ramp up their investment of late. Who Are Ramping Up Their Shares?

There were more Broadcom insiders that have bought shares than those that have sold. In total, individual insiders own over 7.49 million shares in the business, which makes up around 1.73% of total shares outstanding.

Is Future Growth Outlook As Bullish?

At first glance, Broadcom’s future looks mediocre. Probing further into annual growth rates, Broadcom is expected to experience a limited level of revenue growth next year, and along with high cost growth, is expected to contribute to a highly negative expected earnings growth. This indicates cost growth has outstripped revenue which is unsustainable. Although insiders may see prosperous times ahead given the current investment period, leading to their conviction to buy. Or else they may simply deem the stock to be undervalued by the negative sentiment.

Did Stock Price Volatility Instigate Buying?

An alternative reason for recent trades could be insiders taking advantage of the share price volatility. A correlation could mean directors are trading on market inefficiencies based on their belief of the company’s intrinsic value. In the past three months, Broadcom’s share price reached a high of $270.23 and a low of $225.25. This indicates moderate volatility with a share price movement of 19.97%. This may not be large enough to warrant any significant purchases, therefore the underlying driver may be the insiders’ belief of company growth prospects or simply their personal portfolio rebalancing.

Next Steps:

Broadcom’s insider meaningful buying activity tells us the shares are currently in favour, though negative growth in expected earnings contests this assumption, and the relatively stable stock price may not warrant exploiting any mispricing. However, while insider transactions could be a helpful signal, it is definitely not sufficient on its own to make an investment decision. there are two fundamental factors you should further examine:
