Dodgers icon, Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda hospitalized in ICU

Former Los Angeles Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda is in the intensive care unit of an Orange County hospital.

The Dodgers announced the news Sunday morning.

“Lasorda, 93, was admitted and he is in intensive care, resting comfortably,” a Dodgers statement reads. “The family appreciates everyone’s thoughts and prayers; however, they request their privacy at this time.”

He’s been in the hospital since last week, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Reason for Tommy Lasorda’s hospitalization unclear

Lasorda’s condition and the reason for his hospitalization are not clear.

Lasorda, 93, suffered a heart attack in 1996 shortly before he retired as Dodgers manager. He managed the Dodgers from 1976 to 1996, leading them to the 1988 World Series title. It was the last Dodgers championship until they beat the Tampa Bay Rays in this year’s World Series.

Lasorda has remained closely associated with the Dodgers and was in attendance for their Game 6 win to clinch the championship in October. He has worked for the team as an adviser in recent years.

Lasorda has been associated with the franchise since he pitched for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1954.
