Posh pooches treated to a special dogs dinner at Katie's Canine Kitchen

Dog lovers can buy cat shaped biscuits made out of liver and bacon.

Kate and Martin Westcott have opened a dog's bakery in Kidderminster (SWNS)

A barking-mad couple have opened up a posh bakery with a twist.

They have packed their high street bakery with display cases full of baked goods but on closer inspection, instead of bread and cakes the shop sells treats for dogs.

Katie's Canine Kitchen, owned by Kate Wescott, 44, and her husband Martin, 56, cater specifically for canine companions and have baked Christmas muffins - nicknamed 'wuffins' - made from turkey, cranberry and Brussels sprouts.

The savoury treats are homemade and tested on their beloved rescue dog, Holly, a twelve year old cross between a Labrador and a Rottweiler.

Mum-of-five Kate, who runs the unusual bakery in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, said: "She tastes everything we make. If she likes it, we know other dogs will too.

"Martin bakes the biscuits and we cook them in the shop.

"We make all types of treats including wuffins (muffins for dogs).

"We even make birthday cakes for pets with soft cheese to resemble icing."

Dog lovers can also buy cat shaped biscuits made out of liver and bacon.

One of their most popular dog biscuits is one which tastes like a full English breakfast.

Kate continued: "Initially we started by buying books and gaining information from the internet and have researched what dogs can and cannot eat.

"Surprisingly the carrot biscuits we make are one of our best sellers and we are doing gift bags for Christmas.

"Other favourites include turkey and cranberry, mint sauce, chicken livers, fish and parsley, liver and bacon, roast beef, black pudding, lambs liver, kidneys and wuffins complete with a sausage surprise."

The business venture started as a hobby for the couple but they soon realised they were on to a success when friends dogged the bakers for more canine treats.

The couple feel so strongly about their four-legged customers, all ingredients are organic and locally sourced.

Kate added: "When we started we felt it was important to buy natural ingredients.

"Now we buy local supplies and use free range eggs and olive oil to ensure they are healthy treats..

"We make biscuits and treats with simple, natural ingredients such as vegetables and I think that this is what people want for their pets.

"Many people are as concerned for the health of their pet as they are themselves and see organic food as important.

"The treats suit a variety of pets and we hope that shoppers will be caught up by our enthusiasm and see the biscuits, wuffins and cakes as worth buying not only for their novelty but for their nutritional value."
