Dominic West's wife Catherine Fitzgerald has spoken out about the "ups and downs" in the couple's marriage amid the drama over pictures of West and Pursuit of Love co-star Lily James together in Rome in October 2020.
Fitzgerald spoke out about her relationship with The Wire star for the first time since the couple issued a joint statement regarding the pictures that surfaced in October 2020, showing West and co-star Lily James kissing on a scooter in Rome. Following the release of the pictures by the Daily Mail Dominic and his wife posed for photos outside their home, before issuing a handwritten statement explaining "Our marriage is strong and we’re very much still together. Thank you."
In a recent interview Fitzgerald opened up about their relationship, describing the "wonderful love affair" they had when they met at university in Dublin. She described the early days of their relationship saying "We would look over Dublin, reading poetry to one another with the mountains in the distance. We had all the time in the world to explore the pubs and back streets and walk the canal."
She told The Irish Independent that she and West split after one summer together but reunited years later and have now been married for 10 years.
She also commented on the difficulties they've had in their marriage, seemingly referencing the drama following the picture of West and James that surfaced in October last year.
She said of their marriage, "It's had its ups and downs of course, like everybody, but we are totally devoted to each other and to our full, vibrant family life together."
West is currently starring in BBC's three-part period drama The Pursuit of Love alongside James, which is said to be where the pair grew close.
Just last week James herself commented on the drama that unfolded following the pictures being published, explaining, "There is a lot to say, but not now, I’m afraid."
