Domino’s baffles TikTok users with controversial new pizza prep video: ‘You better not start selling this’

Watermelon pizza is the internet’s latest controversial fast-food item.

TikTok users are currently freaking out over the bizarre food combo, and it’s all thanks to Domino’s Australia. The fast-food chain shared a video of its attempt to create the strange recipe, causing viewers to share plenty of strong feelings about what is and isn’t considered pizza.

Decode and demystify Gen Z's latest online slang terms with In The Know's new glossary.

This is only the latest strange fast-food item to spark chaos online. In recent months, the internet has weighed in on a 10-meat pizza from Pizza Hut, a Wendy’s-flavored Pringles chip and a returning fan-favorite breakfast item at Burger King.

The watermelon pizza trend has existed on TikTok for a while. (There’s also even a watermelon steak trend.) Still, it’s getting new attention thanks to the image of employees making the item inside an actual Domino’s store.

“Y’all keep asking us for a low carb option,” Domino’s Australia joked in its caption.

Domino’s gave credit to foodie TikToker Oliver Paterson (@elburritomonster), who shared a video of a similar recipe in July. Still, the Domino’s version managed to take on a life of its own.

In the clip, the employees season the watermelon “crust” with barbecue sauce before cooking it on a skillet. Then, they top the pizza with cheese and pepperoni and cook the entire thing.

How to pack the perfect weekender bag:

Overall, viewers were pretty grossed out by the video.

“It’s gonna be a no from me,” one user wrote.

“You better not start selling this,” another wrote.

The good news? Based on the employees’ reactions, it doesn’t seem like watermelon pizza will be hitting the Domino’s menu anytime soon.

“We think it might be an acquired taste,” the chain wrote in its video.
