Historic West End jazz club and theater the Kit Kat Club is preparing to reopen its doors in November with the musical “Cabaret” starring Oscar, BAFTA, Tony and Olivier-winning actor Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”) and BAFTA and BIFA-nominee Jessie Buckley (“Wild Rose”).

Directed by Rebecca Frecknall, herself an Olivier winner in 2019 for “Summer and Smoke,” the Kit Kat Club version of Cabaret will play to a capacity of 550 spectators. Redmayne will play the Emcee with Buckley taking the reins as Sally Bowles and further casting details to be announced soon.

Set and costume design is being handled by Tom Scutt and choreography by Julia Cheng, founder of the House of Absolute and a Philharmonia Orchestra Artist in Residence. Jennifer Whyte will handle musical supervision and direction. “Cabaret” at the Kit Kat Club is produced by Ambassador Theatre Group Productions and Underbelly.

Although tickets are not yet available for purchase, interested buyers can follow the show’s progress at kitkat.club and sign up to be notified when they do go on sale.

“It’s thrilling to be able to approach this classic and important musical at a time when its themes and atmosphere feel so contemporary and resonant,” said Frecknall. “I’m in awe of my incredible creative team who have come together to create a bold new production as well as a new Kit Kat Club, a bespoke home where we can truly embrace and unlock the world of Cabaret for a new audience.”

CINEMA

German cinema distribution organizations have been among the hardest hit in Europe, with cinemas closed since Nov. 2. In April, the government said that cinemas would remain closed until at least June 30, but no reopen date was given at that time. Today, the country’s distribution organizations, including HDF Kino and AG Kino, have jointly called on the German government to reopen cinemas nationwide on July 1, when the previous closure lapses. In addition to setting a concrete date, the organizations are asking the government for clear health and safety measures to be established well in advance, allowing time for cinemas to properly prepare, and that mask-wearing not be a mandatory part of reopening.

FACTUAL

U.K. factual producers Blink Films, a Tin Roof Media company, will produce “Extraordinary Twins,” a new two-part series for ITV about three-year-old twins Callie and Carter Torres, conjoined from the chest down. The documentary will follow parents Chelsea and Nick as they face the decision of either leaving the children together or embarking on a high-risk surgery to separate the girls, which could threaten both of their lives. On their journey, Chelsea and Nick will consult specialists, other families with conjoined twins and several divided twins now living independent lives. The special is produced by Annabelle Marshall, series produced by Rachel Coughlan and executive produced by Dan Chambers, with ITV Studios Global Entertainment handling distribution.

COMMISSION

BBC One has ordered a second season of the popular mystery gameshow “I Can See Your Voice” from Fremantle production company Thames. The nine-episode commission follows a successful season one, where the series averaged 3.8 million viewers across its first six episodes, with a 22% share and 5.1 million viewer peak. The show asks contestants to judge strangers on face value and decide who can sing and who cannot by first impression alone. “I Can See Your Voice” is adapted from a CJ ENM South Korean format which debuted in 2015 and eventually earned an International Emmy nomination for Best Non-Scripted Entertainment Program. It has been adapted in 18 countries, including on Fox the U.S.
