Donald Trump has responded to a re-edited TV version of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York which removed his cameo appearance.

When Canada’s public broadcaster CBC recently aired the 1992 movie, the scene in which the President appears was cut from the film — a decision which was criticised by his supporters online.

In the scene, Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McCallister asks Trump for directions when they meet in the Plaza Hotel, which he owned at the time.

The President said on Twitter that “the movie will never be the same” and then joked that the cuts might have been a result of Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.

CBC has denied that the decision to cut the cameo was politically motivated, with head of public affairs Chuck Thompson saying in a statement that the cuts were made when CBC first acquired the movie in 2014, prior to Trump’s election.

Thompson said that eight minutes in total were removed from the movie for television.

He added: “As is often the case with feature films adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited for time.

“The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot.”

The President has described his cameo in the film as an “honour” and conservative news programme Fox & Friends said its removal amounted to “censorship”.

Trump has made cameos in numerous films over the years, including Zoolander and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

In 2017, Matt Damon revealed that the President required he be allowed to film a cameo in movies that used his buildings as a filming location.

He said that, in most cases, the filmmakers later removed the cameo from the finished movie.

The Home Alone franchise was one of the key Fox properties acquired by Disney in the multi-billion dollar acquisition earlier this year.

The Mouse House has already announced plans, perhaps inevitably, to reboot Home Alone with a new cast of characters.
