Exciting news about Downton Abbey film sequel from Jim Carter

From Prima

If you were a fan of last year's long-awaited Downton Abbey movie, you'll be thrilled to hear plans for a second film are well underway.

In September 2019, Downton's creators said they had "a plan" for a sequel but everything depended on the success of the first film.

Now, we know a script has been produced and shared with actors, thanks to Jim Carter, who plays Carson, giving an update on This Morning.

“If you promise not to tell anyone, I’ll let you know that we’ve seen a script… The script for a second film is there. We’ve seen it, it’s very funny," he told Phillip and Holly.

Going into more detail, he added: "It’s got all the same characters in, all the regular characters, and I think the will is – Covid willing – we’ll film it next year. I don't know if I can trust Phillip to keep this secret, but Holly, I know I can trust you!”

As well as looking ahead to a future movie, Jim is also reflecting on the 10 years since Downton began as an ITV series.

“It’s amazing. Does it feel like 10 years? It [does] seem like an age ago. And I looked down on my bookshelves and I found this – a bound script of the first edition of the first script of Downton Abbey.

"I had a little wave of nostalgia and my first scene it say’s ‘Carson the Butler sits in his magnificence’... and my first line was ‘Ah, William, any papers yet?’...as the newspapers were being delivered!

“It seems like a whole world of time between now and then, because it was such a whirlwind success," he added.

Happily, it seems that whirlwind is set to continue. Watch this space for more news about the Downton movie as we get it.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
