After strong E3 2018 conferences from Microsoft, Bethesda, and Ubisoft, Sony had big shoes to fill. Whether it did though, is left to be decided. Though we see more of Sony's four big upcoming titles, the actual conference was a bit bizarre.
Here is all the news and reveals from the Sony PlayStation conference.
The Last of Us Part 2
Sony finally showed off some gameplay for the eagerly anticipated The Last of Us Part 2. It was an incredibly harrowing slice of destroyed society as protagonist Ellie, all grown up and clearly damaged, found herself stalked by a group of violent scavengers.
The combat was even more brutal than the first game, with Ellie involved in physical, gory encounters where she shoots face slices necks and, well, blows people up with explosive arrows. Certainly not for the faint of heart, contrasted with romantic bookends where Ellie is spending time with her girlfriend. A fascinating, conflicting display that is sure to spark debate.
No clue on release date though, it seems.
Ghost of Tsushima
Sucker Punch’s open-world feudal Japan was also shown off in a lengthy, gorgeous gameplay trailer in which our hero gallops across wind-swept plains and battles other samurai. Combat looks measured and physical.
Control
We got to see a first glimpse at Max Payne developer Remedy’s new game Control, which appears to feature a woman with powerful telekinetic powers. Shared much of the same style as Quantum Break, the studio’s previous action game.
What wasn’t clear was what platforms it is releasing on, but it is being published by 505 Games so one would suspect multiplatform. It’s arriving in 2019.
Resident Evil 2 Remake
In unexpected but most welcome news, the Sony conference also revealed that Capcom are giving Resident Evil 2 a ground up remake. Capcom’s seminal survival horror follows Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield as Raccoon City comes under zombie plague.
Fans of the series have long wanted RE2 to receive the same treatment as the original Resident Evil, which saw a spectacular improvement in the Gamecube remake. Resident Evil 2 Remake is releasing on 25 January 2019.
Death Stranding
We also got a more extended glimpse at Hideo Kojima’s mysterious Death Stranding, with what looks like gameplay as apparent protagonist Porter, played by Norman Reedus, treks across a charred landscape with a variety of baggage in tow. Including a dead body at one point.
The appearance of a mysterious lady in black, a baby in a jar and terrifying shadow monsters didn’t exactly clear things up. Feels like the more we see, the less we know about Kojima’s project. Still no inkling of a release date, either.
Marvel's Spider-Man
There was a lengthy look at gameplay from Insomniac’s super looking Spider-Man, as a group of villains lead by the malevolent Mr.Negative gave Spidey the swing-around. The Telegraph got the exclusive hands-on ahead of its appearance at E3 and our assertion that the swinging is sensational looked on the money.
Well that was...different
That's Sony's offering for this year's E3. We have more questions than ever about Death Stranding, but very impressed by the other big three. Thanks for joining us and let us know what you thought of the conference in the comments.

We see its footprints in the mud. Whatever it is, they seem to inhabit the planet.
Does Norman deliver babies?
The world looks stunning, but we still haven't got much of an idea what Death Stranding is about.
Norman Reedus' character is a delivery man of some sort
Not quite sure what he delivers but his job looks harder than the average Deliveroo drivers.

This time we're with Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew. Thank goodness, couldn't see that Frozen trailer again.
New title from the creators of Rick and Morty
Trover Saves the Universe. No release date but it's coming to PS VR and PlayStation 4. Seems we were hoodwinked and now we're seeing a bit of everything.

This is potentially one of the most beautiful fight sequences ever
Say what you want, but Sony's combat is always dynamic and seamless. Great use of the environment too.
The detail is astounding
The slice marks on enemies, the blood splatters on Jinn's face, even the way he wiped the blood off his katana before sheathing it.
Now for the bloody part
Some classic samurai combat - very gruesome but looks great. Limbs are being chopped off everywhere.
The actual games make up for the strangeness
Ghost of Tsushima is absolutely beautiful. The music, world, characters, the way the wind shakes the trees. Wow.

In a Japanese themed room with an IMAX screen. This is all very strange indeed.

This is all a bit awkward
Sony are a bit of a disappointment this year. Everything's running very slowly and it's all very cringe worthy.

"Don't expect some new idea," says PlayStation. We'll only be seeing Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, Marvel Spider-Man, and Death Stranding.
So each room is decorated differently
Each room in the 'experience' seems to represent a different title that is being shown. We just did The Last of Us Part II, let's see what's next.

Our very own Dan Silver is at the conference and is informing us everyone is being moved into another room as part of the 'experience'.
Ellie is brutal
Clearly Ellie has been through some stuff in her time because she is super brutal - just macheted a man in the throat.
Suitably impressed
Between the seamless combat, stunning graphics, and new mature Ellie, I am very excited about The Last of Us Part II already.
No sign of Joel
Doesn't mean we won't see him make an appearance later. Been informed there are different rooms for SOny, the main stage one is designed like the church we seen the dance in at the start of this trailer.
Seems it was a flashback
We're now seeing gameplay of Ellie in the present day. She's a bit banged up and definitely ruthless as she sneaks through a dark forest with bodies hanging from trees,

Instead it's Gustavo Santeria who composed the music for The Last of Us.
