Early injury exits crush fantasy championship dreams in Week 16

So, you make it to Week 16. Your team — the team that has led you to victories the whole season — is set. They’re healthy and ready to roll. You came into the championship matchup hot. You’re loving your chances.

And then, early in the slate, your guys start to go down. You can only watch as the word “Questionable” gets tossed around. Then, the ultimate back-breaker: When the alert “___ has been ruled Out!” appears.

Early injury exits are deflating, but they especially brutal when your playing for the fantasy championship; the only thing that’s worse is when your studs are ruled out before their matchups, like fantasy cornerstones, Derrick Henry and Dalvin Cook, were this week. We saw a lot of heartbreaking early exits in Week 16:

Will Fuller was hyped entering a juicy matchup with the Buccaneers — he only managed two catches for 11 yards before leaving with a groin injury. Kyler Murray had some good things cooking (11/18 for 118 yards, 1 TD; six carries for 40 yards) before his hamstring flared up. All told, we feel you, Joe:

DJ Moore has had a great season. He’d been one of the top options at wide receiver in fantasy. Even with Will Grier getting his first start, you hoped that Moore’s weekly floor would save him from any quarterback volatility. Moore exited with a concussion after just one catch:

Chris Carson was averaging five yards a carry against the Cardinals and looked to be heading towards a great game. James Conner was doing well against the Jets’ tough run defense. They both left early with injuries (Carson’s hip injury a season-ender). Sorry, Christopher:

But hey, it wasn’t all bad. Some unexpected performances led to fantasy championships, like the Indianapolis Colts’ defense’s absolute destruction of the Panthers:

Lamar Jackson and Mark Andrews have been a profitable combo pretty much all season, but Saquon Barkley has been on fire the past two weeks after being a disappointment for much of 2019 — now imagine having all three of them going for ya with a title on the line:

And of course, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention this guy, who brought the magic one last time for fantasy managers bold enough to trust him (In fact, Fitzpatrick scored 32.66 fantasy points — third-highest of all quarterbacks in Week 16 at the time of this writing):
