Fighting back from falling behind on 20 minutes, John Mousinho’s men netted through Colby Bishop, Abu Kamara and Regan Poole to seal a 3-1 success at Fratton Park.
Yet it was the manner of the performance which also impressed, with so many of Pompey’s players turning in impressive displays to clinch a much-needed victory.
Plenty of high ratings on display – and here they are...
Had very little to do in the second half, although produced one excellent stoppage-time save. Will overlook how he almost got caught in possession around the same period. Overall, good distribution once again and not afraid to come off his line. (Photo: Jason Brown)
(Replaced by Alex Robertson on 90 minutes) First league start since February and produced a strong showing. Bounced back after being outwitted by Jones for Posh’s opener and put in some good crosses from right-back, including one on the outside of his boot which was clawed off the line by Bilokapic.
Been the signing of the season so far and how he must have relished grabbing Pompey’s third right in front of the Fratton End when sliding home Kamara’s delivery. Aggressive, positive and tigerish, become such a key part of the Blues. (Photo: Jason Brown)
Once overlooked, now an automatic starter, the Irishman continues to go from strength to strength. Another strong defensive performance. (Photo: Jason Brown)
Didn’t have as much attacking impact as Swanson down the right, but always willing to get forward. Rock solid as ever defensively, which was certainly needed when down to 10 men. (Photo: Jason Brown)
What a cross from your holding midfielder to assist Bishop in his first-half goal, then his short corner played a part in the second goal and later a clever headed pass aided Kamara in the third. Superb all-round performance. (Photo: Jason Brown)
Blotted an impressive performance by collecting another Pompey red card following two bookable offences. It left his team-mates down to 10 men from the 85th minute. A shame as was superb throughout, but now faces a one-match ban. (Photo: Jason Brown)
(Replaced by Jack Sparkes on 83 minutes) Opened his Pompey goal account with a right-footed finish inside the six-yard box, then turned provider with a shot-cum-cross converted by Regan Poole in the second half. Enjoying a bright start to his time at Fratton Park.
(Replaced by Sean Raggett on 90 minutes) Given a standing ovation when he came off, reflecting another eye-catching performance and how quickly Pompey fans have taken to him. No goals, but work-rate, energy and power caused many, many problems.
(Replaced by Paddy Lane on 68 minutes) Can lay claim to an assist for Pompey’s second goal, although it was aided by Romoney Crichlow’s misjudgement. Still, plenty of work-rate from the ex-Cardiff man before coming off with a knock, but still searching for his form since arriving at Fratton Park.
Back on the scoresheet, heading home Marlon Pack’s delivery from the right and arguably his best performance of the season so far. Caused Posh constant problems, held the ball up well and, tellingly, often had to be silenced by a tug of the shirt or being held back. (Photo: Jason Brown)

(Replaced Gavin Whyte on 68 minutes) Maintained Pompey's tempo and always a willing outlet down the left.
The decision to push 'hugely popular' De Gea from the club has been brought into sharp focus as a result of the displays of his replacement Andre Onana.
“Everyone was saying that he was winning Man United games but the only thing they could come up with is that he was scoring goals," is one of the all-time great Paul Parker lines.
Real Madrid have the heart set on Reece James and a report claims Chelsea are willing to part with their club captain in a straight swap for a midfielder.
Manchester United have scored nine goals and conceded 14 so clearly should have signed Kane. But it's alright because Hojlund 'showed he could match' him.
Gerrard left Liverpool in 2015 after Rodgers told him his game time would be limited, only for Klopp to arrive two months later. Gerrard was 'devastated'.
Klopp insisted after the game that he was 'really, really happy' but Owen has explained why the Liverpool boss will be 'concerned' by his side's display.
