Yahoo Finance EastEnders shares full details on Ruby Allen's endometriosis diagnosis

EastEnders has revealed further details of Ruby Allen's endometriosis storyline as she receives the diagnosis this week.
In scenes set to air on Thursday (March 25), Ruby and husband Martin Fowler go to the gynaecologist, who suggests that she has the condition. It follows Ruby recently suffering a miscarriage.
The soap has now confirmed that the next few months will see Ruby and Martin learn to live with endometriosis as they experience a heartbreaking impact on their lives.
Endometriosis is a chronic and often times debilitating condition that can impact a person in many ways, including pelvic pain, painful irregular periods, bowel and bladder problems, painful sex, depression and infertility.
The disease can worsen if left untreated and may have a huge impact on a person's life, career, relationships and mental health.
Endometriosis can take around eight years to diagnose and affects 1.5 million women in the UK, and one in 10 women from puberty to menopause. March is also Endometriosis Awareness Month.
EastEnders has worked with leading charity Endometriosis UK for the storyline, with Faye Farthing, Communications and Campaigns Manager for the charity, saying: "It's a huge step forward to see EastEnders tackle endometriosis head on, a UK soap first that will no doubt help end the stigmas associated with the condition.
"We're delighted to have been working closely with EastEnders on this story, and hope it will go a long way in removing the taboos and help anyone experiencing symptoms feel empowered to seek help – as latest statistics show 62% of women aged 16-24 have never heard of endometriosis and 80% would put off going to the doctor with symptoms."
EastEnders airs Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
