EasyJet's McCall Named 'Leader Of The Year'

EasyJet (Other OTC: EJTTF - news) chief executive Carolyn McCall flew away with the top honour from the National Business Awards.

The ceremony, sponsored by Lloyds Bank and now in its 14th year, was attended by 1,200 guests at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Tuesday night.

It (Other OTC: ITGL - news) opened to a video message from the Prime Minister, who described the awards as "the Oscars of great British business."

He added: "The awards recognise people who have the guts to strike out on their own, who have the tenacity to work hard for every deal and who have the innovation and vision that lets you grow your business and take new people on.

"Its people like you who are making this the most entrepreneurial and dynamic period in our country’s recent history. So thank you again for all you’re doing."

Sports and fitness brands topped the list of winners, including The Body Coach, DNAFit and Premiership Rugby.

The ceremony, hosted by Sky News Business Presenter Ian King and Consumer Affairs Correspondent Poppy Trowbridge, culminated in awards to two top business figures in Ms McCall and Berkeley chairman Tony Pidgley, who was handed the Excellence in Business Award.

Carolyn McCall said: "It is actually easyJet's first birthday today ...but I would just like to say thank you very much to those of you who voted for me as the Ashridge Business School Leader of the Year.

"It's a really lovely thing to receive, I'm very pleased, but I'm really pleased on behalf of all the people at easyJet."
