'Simple yet stunning, they are a nice one to sit and make for a moment of calm over a cuppa or spiced mulled wine,' says Rebecca Stanton, Stylist at Dobbies Garden Centres. 'What I love most about them is how easy it is to change the look by choosing different foliage, plus they only take minutes to make, so are truly an express style update!'
Follow this tutorial from Dobbies.
You will need
Empty, clear glass bottles
Taper candles
Selection of foliage
Scissors or secateurs
1. Collect foliage from your garden, or forage from a walk. You could even take a few sprigs from a bouquet of Christmas flowers, if you have one. Foliage could include Fern, Eucalyptus, Holly or Bay tree sprigs, to name a few.
2. Once you've chosen your foliage, pop it in clear glass bottles and add water. Place one sprig in each glass bottle and fill the water up to about the neck of the bottle.
3. Add candles: Opt for taper candles which are long and slim, as these will add height and interest. It doesn't have to be white, you could choose a coloured candle, or a red or green one to keep it festive!
4. Place your bottles on your mantel or table then safely light and enjoy!
