Watch: Eddie Izzard’s marathon challenge interrupted by ‘gatecrashers’

Eddie Izzard almost had her charity marathon challenge scuppered by "gatecrashers" she had to warn away in order to keep it COVID-safe.

The actor and comedian is in the midst of the A Run For Hope challenge, which sees her attempt 31 marathons and 31 stand-up shows across 31 days to raise funds for charities.

It was toward the end of her 24th marathon when two individuals attempted to enter the studio the 58-year-old was running in.

In a video posted to Izzard's Twitter account, she could be seen warning people off-camera who were seemingly trying to walk into the room where she's been doing the runs on a treadmill.

From the exercise equipment, she urged them not to enter by saying: "No, no, no you can’t come in, you can’t come in, I'm so sorry! You can’t come in, you can’t come in, it is COVID-safe.

"Please, you have to go, you have to go. I'm sorry."

When it appeared to happen again, Izzard raised her voice as she shouted: "No no no, don't come in, do not, do not, do not, stop! It's COVID-safe. Go out, please."

As the run then came to a close, Chris Moyles, who had been chatting with Izzard via video link, commented: "I love how you saved that excitement until the last 15 seconds."

Izzard then thanked Moyles before explaining what had happened, saying: "Two guys tried to get in, we've got the door ajar to let the air in from outside."

She then emphasised that "we're still COVID-safe" in the footage shared to social media.

The video was captioned: "A dramatic ending to a very tough marathon 24. It’s hard enough for @eddieizzard as it is without having to contend with gatecrashers."
