Netflix has confirmed the release date for season two of Emily in Paris – and it will be transporting us to the French capital over the festive season.

The drama will premiere on 22 December, with the just-released first trailer showing that Lily Collins' Emily Cooper is about to see her love life become even more complicated...

After hooking up with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) – whose girlfriend Camille (Camille Razat) is a good friend – in the season 1 finale, it's fair to say Emily's dealing with a whole lot of guilt.

That's not to say her character won't continue having a ball as she lives out her Parisian dream. Previous teaser footage from the series shows Emily on holiday on the French Riviera, sampling oysters and relaxing poolside with best friend Mindy, played by Ashley Park.

Netflix also recently shared first look images of Emily in season two, which also hinted at another love interest...

In one still, Emily is seemingly being romanced by new character Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) to the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, no less.

'These Emily in Paris Season 2 first look photos are comin' in haute,' Netflix captioned the images.

When Emily In Paris hit screens at the end of 2020, it divided fans firmly into two camps: those who loved the show and binge-watched it in one afternoon, and those who found it a little cheesy.

Regardless, you've likely watched the now-iconic Netflix series by now. From Lily Collins' peppy performance, to the smouldering chef next door (and subsequent love triangle), the bold wardrobes and gorgeous Parisian scenery — it's hard to deny that Emily In Paris has the wow factor and is a highly watchable show.

Here's everything we know so far about Emily in Paris season 2...

Emily in Paris Season 2: The plot

After the cliffhanger that was the end of season one, it’s safe to say we can expect a lot more drama from season two.

Not only has Gabriel (one of Emily’s love interests) decided to stay in Paris after Antoine (another of Emily’s love interests) offered to buy him his restaurant, but Camille (Gabriel’s girlfriend whom he has been cheating on with Emily) wants to “talk” to our protagonist. To cut to the chase, things are just a little complicated.

We can also expect Emily to work even more of her American charm at work in season two – despite a rocky start with her boss, Sylvie, the pair seem to have patched things up at the end of season one.

In fact, if Netflix’s official season two announcement is anything to go by, Emily may finally be beginning to win Sylvie over. The release, which came in the form of a letter from Sylvie to Emily’s American employer, reads:

'Nous sommes désolées! We are writing to regrettably inform you that Emily Cooper will need to remain in Paris for an extended period of time. Despite her overconfident manner and lack of prior experience in luxury goods marketing, she has nonetheless managed to charm some of our hard-to-impress clients during her short time at Savoir. Call it bonne chance, or American ingenuity – I’m leaning towards the former – her results are impressive.

'We hope that by extending her time in Paris, Emily will further the relationships she has already made, delve deeper into our culture, and perhaps pick up a few words of basic French.

'We will work in conjunction with you on applying for a work permit on her behalf to prolong her time here. We love having Emily in Paris! But please don’t let her know that.'

If that wasn't enough, SATC and Emily In Paris creator Darren Star told Oprah Magazine earlier this year that season 2 will see Emily become 'more a part of the fabric of the world she’s living in, compared to season 1, and will 'be more of a resident of the city.

Emily in Paris Season 2: The cast

Netflix released a teaser trailer clip on Twitter back in November 2020, to announce Emily In Paris being renewed for a second season — including the return of several of our favourite cast mates.

Which means, alongside Lily Collins returning as Emily Cooper, Ashley Park will be reprising her role as Mindy, Lucas Bravo as hunky chef Gabriel, Camille Razat as chic Camille and Emily's magazine co-workers: Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Samuel Arnold (Julien) and Bruno Gouery (Luc) are all returning.

Perfume founder Antoine (played by William Abadie) will also be returning as a series regular, following his character's investment in Gabriel's restaurant at the end of season one.

As far as new characters go, Lucien Laviscount has been cast in a recurring role as Alfie, described as a 'sarcastic and charming cynic' who 'refuses to speak French, or immerse himself in French culture' and 'enjoys teasing Emily',' according to the Netflix character synopsis.

Other new faces include playwright Jeremy O’Harris, who will play fashion designer Gregory Elliot Dupree and Arnaud Binard, as St Tropez nightclub owner Laurent G.
