Euphoria is treating us all to an early Christmas gift this year as the show will be airing a two-part holiday special that airs in the UK on Monday (December 7).

The Christmas episodes will follow on from season one and will see Rue (Zendaya) try to resolve her relationship issues as she seeks advice from Ali (Colman Domingo) – her mentor from Narcotics Anonymous.

The teen drama follows the lives of a group of high school students who are finding their place in the world as they navigate modern teen life.

Season two really cannot come quick enough, and Digital Spy recently chatted with Domingo about what to expect in the upcoming season as he told us that the show is committed to tackling progressive and challenging storylines.

"[Season 2], it's fantastic. I thought it was truly fantastic. But also, [showrunner] Sam [Levinson] is also truly of the moment, so I question whether or not the scripts will still be the same because he wants to respond to the moment that we’re actually living in," he said.

Domingo also mentioned that coronavirus and Black Lives Matter are topics that Sam Levinson, the Euphoria showrunner, could possibly want featured on the show as he always wants the series to examine neglected topics.

"I think all of it. I think possibly all of it because I know that he's very interested. Sam is very astute and interested in the world, and letting the show hold a mirror up to society, and deconstruct it, and smash it over the head with a hammer, so I feel he would do all of it."

As for his character Ali? We can expect to see more of him on the show as he opens up and tries to deal with his own issues.

Domingo explained: "We will see a bit more of Ali. I think that we will start to peel away the layers to find out what made Ali, Ali. I think that he will be a bit more integral when it comes to the show."

He also mentioned that Ali has his own demons and chaos to deal with and that the storyline could go either way as he's a recovering addict.

Euphoria's upcoming Christmas special is available to stream now on HBO Max in the US, and will air on HBO on Sunday, December 6 at 9pm ET. In the UK, it premieres on Monday, December 7 at 2am on Sky Atlantic.
