Even with Sprinklr, Inc. (NYSE:CXM) stock down 8.9% this week, insiders who bought recently netted around US$21k

Insiders who bought Sprinklr, Inc. (NYSE:CXM) in the last 12 months may probably not pay attention to the stock's recent 8.9% drop. After taking the recent loss into consideration, the US$500k worth of stock they bought is now worth US$521k, indicating that their investment yielded a positive return.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we would consider it foolish to ignore insider transactions altogether.

Sprinklr Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The Founder Ragy Thomas made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$500k worth of shares at a price of US$16.00 each. That implies that an insider found the current price of US$16.67 per share to be enticing. That means they have been optimistic about the company in the past, though they may have changed their mind. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider bought shares at close to current prices. The only individual insider to buy over the last year was Ragy Thomas.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. We usually like to see fairly high levels of insider ownership. It's great to see that Sprinklr insiders own 24% of the company, worth about US$1.0b. This kind of significant ownership by insiders does generally increase the chance that the company is run in the interest of all shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Sprinklr Tell Us?

It doesn't really mean much that no insider has traded Sprinklr shares in the last quarter. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening. It would be great to see more insider buying, but overall it seems like Sprinklr insiders are reasonably well aligned (owning significant chunk of the company's shares) and optimistic for the future. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing. Every company has risks, and we've spotted 2 warning signs for Sprinklr (of which 1 is a bit unpleasant!) you should know about.
