Yahoo Finance Everton departee gives damning verdict on Toffees downfall, places blame on ‘constant changes’ within the club
Tom Davies has revealed that he chose to leave Everton due to their constant changing of managers, players and formations over the last few years.
The 25-year-old chose to leave his boyhood club for Sheffield United this summer, after turning down a contract extension at Goodison Park.
Davies broke onto the scene in 2016 as an 18-year-old, scoring a stunning individual goal against Manchester City in a 4-1 victory for Everton at Goodison Park.
The midfielder was touted to become a superstar after that performance, but never really lived up to the Evertonian’s expectations.
Davies went on to make 179 appearances for the Toffees, scoring seven goals and making eight assists.
Despite going through periods of good form, Davies struggled to break into the starting XI last season after falling behind the likes of Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gana Gueye, James Garner and Abdoulaye Doucoure in the pecking order.
Davies now has a fresh chance to succeed in the Premier League with Sheffield United. However, it’s fair to say he doesn’t have high hopes for the future of his beloved Everton.

Davies takes aim at erratic Everton
Opening up on his reasoning behind leaving Everton, Davies admitted that the upheaval at the club in recent recent years had taken its toll on him.
When asked if this move represented a chance to experience a sense of security he has been lacking, he responded: “Yeah, you could say that,” he told Stadium Astro.
“It’s hard for a footballer to reach their potential when they are constantly being changed around and there is people coming and going and you’re trying to make connections with different team-mates, different managers, different formations.
“For me, I think that [stability] is a big thing I need and just knowing I fit into a team and they want me to be here for the player I am. That then gives you the confidence to express yourself on the pitch.”
“It was definitely a new step and a challenge for me. It was a natural step for me to take and one I was happy to take because I want to look after myself first and put my career first. I think for me to come here, it was by doing that.
It is always difficult leaving your first club and your boyhood club, but it’s one [decision] I am happy I’ve made and I’m glad to be here.”
Davies is yet to feature for Sheffield United, so it will be interesting to see if he makes his debut when the Blades play Tottenham on September 16.
