Ex-UFC fighter Bryan Caraway charged with 4 felonies, theft of former champ Miesha Tate's ATV

Former UFC champion Miesha Tate says that her ex-boyfriend and fellow former UFC fighter Bryan Caraway stole her ATV and concocted a fraud scheme when she expressed her intent to take it back.

Caraway is now facing four felony charges including first-degree attempted theft, fraud, filing a false insurance statement and making a false statement on a vehicle title, according to court records obtained by ESPN. The charges were filed in Benton County, Washington.

Tate, who retired from UFC in 2016, was one of the sport's most popular fighters as women's bantamweight champion. Caraway made his UFC debut in 2011 and last fought on the circuit in 2018.

What allegedly happened

According to the Benton County insurance commissioner's office, Tate told Caraway in December 2018 that she was taking back the ATV that he allegedly stole from her. She did so on Dec. 18, and Caraway bought an insurance policy on the ATV on Dec. 21 before filing a claim three days later that the vehicle was stolen, according to the documents.

Caraway told the insurance company that he bought the ATV and accessories for $18,500 while he was dating Tate and provided a title showing the vehicle in his name, per the report. Insurance investigators claim that Caraway forged the title and that Tate was the ATV's rightful owner.

Caraway later withdrew the insurance claim, according to the report. But his alleged actions to that point prompted the insurance investigation that led to his four felony charges.

Benton County insurance commissioner Mike Kriedler placed Caraway on the commission's insurance-fraud most-wanted list after he failed to appear in court after being charged on Jan. 12 this year, according to the report. He has since been removed from the list after contacting the prosecutor's office and is scheduled to be arraigned on March 11.
