Explosion near S.Africa refinery injures three -source

April 17 (Reuters) - An explosion near South Africa's SAPREF oil refinery in Durban injured three people on Friday evening, but has been brought under control, according to an official at the plant.

The official said the explosion occurred outside the grounds of the 172,000 barrel per day (bpd) refinery, which is co-owned by Royal Dutch Shell (Xetra: R6C1.DE - news) and BP. She said the situation was "under control." The official was unable to provide any details on the status of the refinery's operations. (Reporting by Wendell Roelf; Editing by Peter Galloway)
