A family is paying a salary of £50,000 for a live-in nanny - but there's a catch
A family in the Scottish Borders is offering a salary of £50,000 – about twice the going rate – for a new live-in nanny after the last five quit over ‘supernatural happenings’ in the house.
The nannies quit their positions last year after they were spooked by furniture moving, ‘strange’ noises, and glasses shattering in different areas throughout the home.

A job ad appeared on Childcare.co.uk last week looking for a nanny who is willing to look after two children, aged five and seven, at the family’s house, which is suspected of being haunted.
The family, who do not want to be identified, say: “We have lived in our home for nearly 10 years. We were told it was ‘haunted’ when we bought it, but kept our minds open and decided to buy the house regardless.
“Five nannies have left the role in the last year, each citing supernatural incidents as the reason, including strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving. This has obviously been a period of great upheaval for our children.
“We haven’t personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we’ve been out of the house, but we’re happy to pay above the asking rate, and feel it’s important to be as up-front as possible to find the right person.”
The family is offering a £50,000 salary to the successful candidate. According Royal Nannies, a live-in nanny working 40-60 hours a week can expect to earn between £350 and £500+ a week net – as families are expected to take care of their NI and tax.
The ad specified that an appropriate candidate must be willing to spend long periods of time in the house alone, and sleep there four nights a week, Monday through Friday, to look after the children.
The successful candidate will have their own room, access to a personal bathroom and a private kitchen area.

The family has already had a number of nannies approach them for more details, however, none has formerly applied for the position.
Richard Conway, founder and CEO of Childcare.co.uk said: “When we saw the advert we were stunned.
“Some were sceptical but after talking to the family and their previous employees we realised it was a genuine position.
“We’ve had some weird and wonderful families find childcare providers through the site, however I think this is probably the most interesting story we’ve heard.
“The family has assured us that no harm has come to anyone living in the house, however the nanny will have to have a strong disposition!”
Nannies can apply for the position at Childcare.co.uk.
