Fantasy hockey: 3 players to add for each category amid Week 11 chaos

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and just about every manager will be crawling to the waiver wire to get their hands on, well, basically anybody. (Getty) (Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

Well, postponed NHL games are back which means fantasy hockey managers must once again pay even more attention to their lineups each and every day.

I'll be honest with you about something. I had to revise my first draft of this blog (which was written late on Friday) because six of the nine players included in it now play zero games before the Christmas break.

It's gonna be a rough several days for fantasy managers so that's why, instead of one, I'm listing three players for each category that can help you between now and Christmas Eve, just in case.

Goals

C/RW Jeff Carter, Pittsburgh Penguins (48 percent rostered on Yahoo)
He's scored three goals in his last six games and has rifled off 14 shots in his previous three outings. Carter plays two games this week.

C/LW Jared McCann, Seattle Kraken (28 percent rostered on Yahoo)
McCann has potted two goals in his last four games and has been shooting the puck at an impressive rate, with 20 shots on goal in his last five outings. He and the Kraken play one game this week.

LW/RW Clayton Keller, Arizona Coyotes (23 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Keller has been putting the puck on net almost every time it touches his stick as the winger has tallied 15 shots on goal in his last two games. That's resulted in three goals and five points during this stretch. He and the Yotes play two games before the pause.

Assists

D Alex Goligoski, Minnesota Wild (39 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Goligoski and the Wild only play on Monday, but he's a solid streaming option for fantasy managers in need of a blueliner. His 17 assists on the season are tied for 10th-most amongst rearguards.

RW Jordan Eberle, Seattle Kraken (35 percent rostered on Yahoo)
While Eberle has scored an impressive 12 goals this season, he's been a helping hand of late for the Kraken. He's registered three assists in his last two games. He and Seattle play one game this week.

RW Travis Konecny, Philadelphia Flyers (32 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Konecny has picked up five assists in his last five games and has also added seven hits during that span. He and the Flyers play two games this week, which is tied for the most of any team in the league.

Plus-minus

D Nicolas Hague, Vegas Golden Knights (26 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Hague owns a very strong plus-14 rating this season and has posted a plus-10 mark in his last 10 outings. He can also provide some blocks, as he's racked up 42 this year. Vegas is scheduled to play two games this week.

D Nick Jensen, Washington Capitals (22 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Jensen's plus-20 rating is tied for the second-highest mark in the NHL this season, trailing only Ryan Hartman of the Wild. He's also been a solid source of hits and blocks this year, as he's produced 56 body checks and 41 blocked shots. The Caps are scheduled to play two games this week.

C Lars Eller, Washington Capitals (13 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Eller has taken on an expanded role while both Nicklas Backstrom and Evgeny Kuznetsov are sidelined. He's posted a plus-two rating in his last three games and has won 32 faceoffs during that stretch.

Power-play points

LW/RW Alexander Radulov, Dallas Stars (47 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Radulov recorded a power-play assist in his most recent outing and has provided a respectable six points on the man advantage this season. He and the Stars play two games in Week 11.

D Vince Dunn, Seattle Kraken (31 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Dunn hasn't scored a lot recently, but three of the last four points he's earned have come on the power play. He and the Kraken play one game this week.

D Ryan Suter, Dallas Stars (24 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Suter is listed on the Stars' second power-play unit and his eight points on the man advantage this season are tied for 11th-most amongst blueliners.

Shots on goal

C/LW/RW Tage Thompson, Buffalo Sabres (24 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Thompson's been putting a lot of pucks on net this season, as his 93 shots on goal are tied for 20th in the NHL. He and the Sabres play two games this week, so he'll likely finish right near the top of the league in the category between now and the break.

RW Dustin Brown, Los Angeles Kings (12 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Brown's 90 shots on goal this year sit 26th amongst all players in the NHL. He's also been a decent source of body checks, as he's thrown 53 hits in 29 games. The Kings are scheduled to play one game in Week 11.

LW Jeff Skinner, Buffalo Sabres (7 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Skinner's 87 shots rank 31st in the NHL, and he's registered a decent nine goals and 17 points in 30 games this season.

Faceoff wins

C/RW Anthony Cirelli, Tampa Bay Lightning (41 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Cirelli has played two games for the Bolts since returning from an upper-body injury. He picked up seven faceoff wins in his last outing and the Lightning play two games this week, making him an attractive option to pluck off the wire.

C Jonathan Toews, Chicago Blackhawks (40 percent rostered on Yahoo)
One of the better faceoff men in the NHL, Toews has won 10 or more faceoffs in nine of his last 10 outings. The veteran middleman is starting to heat up offensively, too, as he's totaled three goals and four points in his last five contests. Chicago is scheduled to play one game before the pause.

C Jean-Gabriel Pageau, New York Islanders (31 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Pageau continues to rack up the draw victories, as he's notched 113 in his last 10 games. He's also starting to pick it up offensively with three points in his last four contests. The Isles are scheduled to play one game this week.

Hits

RW Garnet Hathaway, Washington Capitals (17 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Hathaway returned to the Capitals lineup after missing five games in the NHL's COVID protocol. He didn't miss a step upon return, however, piling up five hits on Sunday. He also added an assist and has recorded four points in his last three games. He and the Caps are scheduled to play two games this week.

D Jani Hakanpaa, Dallas Stars (4 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Hakanpaa is going to hit people and hit more people. His 62 body checks lead the Stars this season, and his 30 blocks sit third on the team. He and the Stars play two games in Week 11.

C/LW Sean Kuraly, Columbus Blue Jackets (4 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Kuraly's 72 hits are tied for 17th-most amongst all forwards in the NHL, and he's been reaching the stat sheet fairly frequently lately, too, as he's registered five points in his last six outings. The Blue Jackets are scheduled to play two games in Week 11.

Blocks

D Adam Larsson, Seattle Kraken (20 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Larsson is going to block shots and hit dudes. He's provided 65 blocks which are tied for seventh and has thrown 78 hits, which is tied for 23rd in the NHL. The Kraken play one game this week.

D Esa Lindell, Dallas Stars (17 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Lindell has picked up two or more blocks in seven of his last nine games and his 58 blocked shots this year rank 18th across the league. Dallas is scheduled to play two games this week

D Brayden McNabb, Vegas Golden Knights (12 percent rostered on Yahoo)
McNabb's 68 blocks are tied for the second-most amongst all players in the NHL. The physical blueliner also brings it in the hits department, as he's thrown 66 body checks this season. He and the Golden Knights play two games this week, making him a likely leader for the category.

Goaltending

It's hard to predict who NHL coaches will decide to start on any given night, so the best advice I can give here is just to monitor the situation daily. There is one netminder, however, I feel confident in recommending who's widely available.

G Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Buffalo Sabres (12 percent rostered on Yahoo)
Luukkonen has started in five of Buffalo's last six games, and although he only has two wins, he's posted an impressive .939 save percentage. The Sabres play two games this week, and there's a decent chance he gets the call for both outings.
