Fascinating glimpse of how life in a school's classroom used to be

These wonderful picture are more than a century old and gives a glimpse into how lessons once looked in schools at the time.

The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the Watford Museum archive and this week we look back to a class at Watford Field School.

The museum's volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: "Old photographs of students show how different classrooms used to look, compared to how they are today.

"This image is from Watford Field School which was opened in September 1891. I believe Waterman's were the builders of the school which was constructed on land that had been part of the Wiggenhall Estate and had been bought at a sale of 'Mr Dyson’s property' in early 1890.

"The school must have grown quickly as it was extended quiet soon after opening."
