How do you feel about going back to gigs? This survey wants to know

Remember gigs? Proper, in-person gigs with real people? They were good, weren’t they?

If everything carries on going to plan with the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown, then indoor music venues will get the green light to start doing what they do best again on May 17.

That’s when England is poised to enter step three of the Grand Lockdown Exit Plan, which under current guidelines would allow for indoor gigs with a capacity of up to 1,000 people, or half-full, whichever is lower.

However, significant uncertainty remains within the live music scene. Will vaccine passports be required? How about rapid testing? Social distancing seems like a certainty, but there’s another big question: after all this time away, with only a brief return to live music late last year, how is the gig-going public feeling about returning to concerts?

That’s exactly what the Music Venue Trust (MVT) is hoping to find out with its #ReviveLive campaign, a new initiative “to help the UK’s live music industry plan for the safe return of gigs”.

As part of this, MVT has launched a two-minute online survey, asking “all fans of live music and grassroots music venues” about their venue-visiting habits before Covid-19, and how they feel about doing so again once the pandemic recedes.

Mark Davyd, CEO of MVT, said that there is still work to do “to ensure that every venue has received the support it needs to prevent permanent closure and gets the chance to reopen, but we really need to understand exactly what it is that audiences want, expect, and need to see so they will feel safe and confident to return”.

He added: “The survey gives everyone that loves live music the chance to tell us how they feel, what measures would encourage them to return and what might make them reluctant. It’s absolutely vital that everyone who wants live music back takes part so we can clearly understand what venues need to do and support them to do it.”

The survey can be found here, and needs to be completed before it closes on April 20. Let them know your views, and we’ll see you at a gig soon.
