Felines Take to the Catwalk for a Times Square Hotel Charity Event

Forget the Musical -- Cats Steal a Different Sort of Spotlight at The Algonquin Hotel to Benefit the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jul 29, 2014) - Fur is decidedly in this season, although not the kind people might expect. On August 2, 2014, The Algonquin Hotel Times Square will host one of the most anticipated fashion events of the animal kingdom: "Matilda & FURiends Salute Broadway." With a reception, feline fashion show and special guests all on the itinerary, attendees are in for a night that's as fun as it is philanthropic.

Benefitting the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, the event begins at 3 p.m. when the adoption van will arrive outside The Algonquin's front doors. Visitors and passersby will then have a chance to adopt a four-legged family member until 7 p.m. that night.

Of course, with the theater capital of the world located just a stone's throw away from this hotel near Broadway, NYC, glamour is bound to play a big role in the evening. Guests will attend a reception and a cat fashion show highlighting the legendary designs of Ada Nieves between 5 and 7:30 p.m. Nieves is a Certified Pet Fashion Designer and has established herself as the doyenne of doggie design, thanks to her numerous television appearances and unique niche.

As guests try to decide which ensemble is the cat's meow, they will be able to shake paws with two special guests: Tara the Hero Cat, who bravely fought off a dog attacking a four-year-old boy in Bakersfield, California; and Vito Vincent, who played "Cat" in last year's Broadway performance of "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

This NYC luxury hotel has been home to a "house feline" since the 1930s. While the first seven cats were all male (and all named Hamlet), the female Matildas have reigned ever since. The incumbent Matilda assumed her role in December 2010 and hosts an event each year, although this fashion-themed soiree feels especially appropriate given the hotel's illustrious pedigree.

In what has to be one of the best Times Square hotel deals around, guests can join in the cat-tastic fun for a $40 donation to the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals. Those interested in attending should RSVP to Alice de Almeida at 1-212-419-9197 or alice.dealmeida@marriott.com.
