Fiit: this new fitness app is the Netflix for workouts

We all know the drill: sign up to a new gym, pledge to go three times a week, and then leave your new trainers to gather dust in your wardrobe.

With the UK population wasting £37 million every year on unused gym memberships, whether that’s because people are too tired or don’t have enough time, something needs to be done to keep Britain moving.

This is where Fiit comes in, a new fitness app which calls itself the ‘Netflix for workouts’.

It’s a form of interactive fitness. Fiit works via a mobile app that connects to your TV. Select from different gym classes, such as Cardio, Strength, and Rebalance, and get moving with a handpicked selection of trainers, such as Richie Norton, Chessie King and Tyrone Brennand.

Along with the app, you will also receive a strap to wear across your chest which tracks your body’s performance.

Feeling competitive? Fiit is planning to launch a new leader board next month so you can use your stats to compete with friends across the world.

Daniel Shellard, Fiit’s co-founder, says the app offers people a personalised exercise experience.

“Fiit combines the motivation of the world’s best boutique studios with the convenience of a home workout. Time and money are huge barriers to fitness for many people but with Fiit you get access to the most in demand trainers, any time, for a fraction of the cost.”

If it's high performance you’re after, there are HIIT classes. For yoga fans, try out Hatha yoga. And, Hiit promises to add new classes daily so you will never be bored with a workout again.

Fitness tech is having a moment in the UK. According to research by WeMa Life, 21 per cent of UK adults are using online videos, apps and wearable tech to work out instead of going to the gym.

When it comes to millennials, around 44 per cent said they are using health apps on a weekly basis, whether that’s for fitness or to monitor and improve their health.

Rohit Patni, CEO and co-founder WeMa Life, told the Standard: “The rise of new technologies – online platforms, apps, wearable devices – is having a really positive impact on the way people are able to manage their health. Fitness apps are a prime example; whether it’s tracking your morning run or receiving a customised work-out schedule, smartphones have fast become an integral part of how we exercise.

“This is something to be celebrated, as apps and websites are not only providing people with better insight into their own health, but also connecting consumers with the information or services they require.”

It also demonstrates how people are changing the way they approach fitness because of technology. One of Fiit’s trainers, Chessie King, made her name on Instagram and through fitness blogging.

For King, a platform like Fiit has made it possible for her to train with her followers.

“Forget about those workout DVDs or fitness plans you bought but didn’t work. Fiit will make you the most confident you’ve been in your body, not just for 12 weeks, but for life,” she said.

Fiit is available for iOS users and is coming to Android soon.
