Fired Worker Shoots Man Before Killing Himself
A man fired from a Houston-area transportation company stormed into the facility and shot dead a former co-worker before turning the gun on himself, according to sheriff's officials.
The man was armed with a shotgun and a pistol when he arrived at the Knight Transportation office in Katy, around 20 miles west of Houston.
Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said the suspect "parked right outside the building and came straight in".
Sheriff's spokesman Ralph Gonzales said the man was overheard saying "you all ruined my life" as he entered the building and may have been looking for someone in particular.
The gunman fatally shot one man, who was found dead at the scene.
Two other workers were injured by shrapnel or other debris from the gunfire.
The gunman and the victims have not been identified.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Phoenix-based company said work at the facility was being suspended until the investigation has been completed.
It said: "Our deepest sympathies are with the family during this difficult time.
"This was the action of a lone former employee. Knight is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of all of its employees."
Authorities said the gunman had been fired two weeks before the shooting.
A nearby high school was placed on lockdown for around an hour as a precaution, and three other district campuses were closed briefly during the incident.
